Food Fight Academy is a Discord server run by CHEFPK, a creator making food videos with an Anime twist. CHEFPK sees his server growing every day, and he attributes that to the judgment-free zone he’s created with his community, empowering them to be themselves and share their favorite things with each other.
“My Discord server is a place for people like me to gather, gush about our favorite things (Anime and food) and not be judged for it. It’s something I WISH I had when I was 13 years old, just a place to feel like I had a community who understood the things I enjoyed.”
Building an audience of fans and followers is just the beginning. According to CHEFPK Discord creates the opportunity to turn even a casual viewer into an engaged and loyal supporter. “Growing your audience is incredibly important as it always can lead to super fans. Super fans are the ones who [support you with] Server Subscriptions, hang out, chat, and contribute even when you’re not around.”
CHEFPK has even relied on his Discord community to come through when he was in a pinch. “I sent out a ping on Discord while at Anime Expo last year, asking if anyone had a spare bottle of water to bring to my signing. I received 3 bottles of water and I gave them free cookbooks. It’s just such a cool thing.”
Server Subscriptions make it possible for creators to offer tiered benefits to subscribers, and CHEFPK keeps his server simple by making it Subscriber Only. This allows him to incentivize subscription, reward his most engaged fans with exclusive access to content and events, and rely on Discord as a source of revenue that he can reinvest into his community.
“Since my server is Subscriber Only, it allows me to put that money back into the community via events, prize support for Discord-only challenges and lets people advertise for me via word of mouth.”
A successful Discord server requires its own creative content strategy, and should lean into features that are unique to Discord and the community you’re building. ”Plan out your content for Discord just like you would for any other platform where you connect with fans. You, as a creator, need to create content that is ideal for Discord. Maybe it's Discord-only live streams, Q&As, hang out sessions, or competitions. They all happen live with direct feedback.”
A big thank you to CHEFPK for sharing this wisdom with us! If you want to join Food Fight Academy and support the community, you can join here and subscribe to their server subscription!
