Bootcamp

As the intrepid leader of a gaming coaching community Boot camp.lol, there is no one more familiar with strategy than Cygnus. Here, game hopefuls focus on improving their skills with a focus on positivity and growth led by a team of high ELO coaches.

Let’s leverage their tactical skill as we dive into their content strategy on Discord.

Know The Value You Want

Before creating your server, ask yourself: why am I here?

For Cygnus, he saw a future where his audience could have the positive gaming community they deserve. To create this space, he started with a strong foundation and a willingness to change.

“Getting a solid server created and set up in the way that is most effective for the kind of community you are hoping to build takes time and effort. It’s an investment and needs to be properly treated as such.”

Bootcamp.lol is an example of excellence, with content and channels dedicated to fostering passionate fans and dedicated subscribers.

“There is work that goes into [your community] and once you’ve done that work, your members will thrive and be grateful to you as a content creator for providing them the space that allows them to enjoy the interactions that you hope to achieve.”

This essential work paves the way for Bootcamp.lol’s self-sustaining and long-lasting content strategy.

Define The Value You Bring

When creating your content server, ask yourself: why is my audience here?

Cygnus knows his audience cares about growth and skill. That’s why he fills the server with peer-to-peer support and leadership from dedicated creators straight from their community.

“Content for our community members is built to be interactive. We have coaching sessions in voice channels where coaches share their screens and can talk WITH community members… this creates a much more organic learning environment than a stream.”

Cygnus sees the important resource his fans provide: a deep love for the game. Community-run events keep the server alive at all hours, with members from around the world volunteering to create and run them multiple times a week.

“There is content being made all of the time that is organic and is the kind of content that the community wants to be engaged with.”

“We even host Q&As on Discord Stages when our big creators are around and these generally get large turnouts where community members get to show off some of their content.”

Using his unique understanding of the value the server fills, Cygnus serves up exactly what his members want: a way to grow together.

Creating a Mutually Beneficial Content Strategy

The key to Cygnus’s success is content that benefits both the creators and the members of Bootcamp.lol.

When new players become established creators, they come back to lend a hand to the next class of hopefuls: a cycle of content creation and consumption.

So what’s the key takeaway for creators on Discord? Cygnus says it's letting your audience contribute to the content strategy of your community.

“The most important thing for a content creator to focus on is how to facilitate a space for people to engage with each other and then engage with them. Give them a space to show off their creations, give them a space to collaborate with each other, and most of all, SPEND TIME IN THE SERVER. Don’t be the content creator that creates a server and then is never there.”

On Discord, creators don’t have to be the sole source of content pushing your members and subscribers forward. Encourage your members to lend a hand so you can both benefit from your thriving community.
