Captain Jack

From Space Engineers to new indie releases, YouTuber Captain Jack’s community meets on Discord to discuss their shared love of science fiction gaming.

Direct Connection, Central Communication

For Jack, Discord is all about connection and conversation with the people who watch his content all over social media.

“I joined Discord to create a core place for me to easily communicate with those watching my content on other websites, where it is sometimes harder to have genuine conversations. Discord allows me to deepen connections with fans via chatting in channels, discussing topics in threads, and sharing the best memes.”

Jack’s server is the central hub for his viewers to come together from all over the world to meet each other, share ideas, and even be a part of creating his content. Recently, he needed extra people to help him bring a special episode of his video series to life, and he knew exactly where to find them. “Discord provided a hub to find fans who were engaged in the series and eager to help us.”

Earning Money on Discord

As a creator using Server Subscriptions on Discord, Jack’s advice for other creators is to decide first what value you’re offering your community before you start, and to make it something you can’t access anywhere else.

“If you’re going to use Server Subscriptions, you need to know your community. I looked at what my community wanted, which was a private game server. It became key to offer that as part of the Server Subscription reward. You’ve got to respect your community, and in return they will respect you. Offer exclusive channels or something those paying for that tier can have just for themselves.”

Coming up with a strategy that directly answers the needs and wants of your community is the first step to launching a subscription tier. Server Subscriptions make it possible for creators to offer multiple tiered benefits to subscribers, but Jack keeps it simple with one tier. This gives him the ability to reward his most engaged members with something he knows they really want and still keep it straightforward.

“Making it one tier allowed for simplicity. It didn’t overcomplicate the offering and made it simple to 1) support me as a content creator and 2) access a fantastic reward that players could enjoy.”

Jack knows the importance of communication to keep his members engaged and eager to continue their subscription. For Jack, keeping his most loyal members informed is a priority.

“Communication is key. It’s important to remain engaged with those who are supporting you financially. This can be simply done via chatting, but also with updates. I host a private game server for my subscribers, and I communicate with them if there are any issues or upcoming updates that could affect players.”

Final Thoughts

For fellow creators considering Discord, Jack’s advice is simple: start now. “There is no time like the present. Creating a Discord community for yourself, your content and your community creates value. This can be fantastic for yourself as a content creator, but also for the community members to engage with like-minded individuals and express themselves.”

A big thank you to Jack for sharing this wisdom with us! If you want to join Captain Jack and support the community, you can join here and subscribe to their server subscription! If you are a server owner Interested in turning on Server Subscriptions, you can click here to learn more.
